Biography
Badr Ikken is an entrepreneur and expert in renewable energy and green hydrogen. An engineer by training, he studied industrial production technologies and solar energy systems at the Berlin University of Technology before pursuing doctoral research at IWF Berlin. He then joined Fraunhofer, a global leader in applied research.
In 2010, he returned to Morocco and played a key role in the development of the Noor Ouarzazate solar complex as Director of Integrated Development at MASEN. The following year, he set up IRESEN, Morocco’s renewable energy research institute, which he led for 11 years. Under his leadership, several cutting-edge research platforms were established, including Green Energy Park (solar energy), Green & Smart Building Park (smart grids and e-mobility), and Green Energy Park MCI in Côte d’Ivoire.
A pioneer in Morocco’s green hydrogen sector, he contributed to the development of the National Green Hydrogen Roadmap and spearheaded the creation of the GreenH2A platform in Jorf Lasfar, in partnership with OCP and UM6P, to structure a national green hydrogen industry.
In 2022, he transitioned to entrepreneurship by founding Gi3 (manufacturing of solar thermal and photovoltaic solutions) and Gi2 (engineering and consultancy in energy transition).
He currently serves as President of the Morocco-Germany Business Council at CGEM, former Chair of the Energy Transition Commission at CGEM, and co-founder of the Green H2 Cluster. He remains actively engaged in advancing energy transition and decarbonization efforts in Morocco.
